Fingal Student Enterprise Awards County Final 8th March 2016

Press Release Monday 15 February 2016

Fingal’s Student Entrepreneurs rev up to countdown to County Final.

A record 2600 Scholars from 31 schools step up to Fingal’s Student Enterprise Awards County Final in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown, on Tuesday March 8th.

Organised by Fingal Local Enterprise Office, these innovative north Dubliners have been eager participants in the National Student Enterprise Awards Programme since September. The savvy students are running actual businesses, having researched, resourced and now trading services and products, with the guidance of business mentors.

There are 31 Local Enterprise Offices nationwide. Fingal LEO co-ordinates and presents the largest number of participants every year. Now in its fifteenth year, a record number of 2,600 students from 24 secondary schools and 7 primary schools in Fingal are competing.

The County Winners at Senior level will go on an educational trip to El Prat, Barcelona as part of their prize. El Prat is twinned with Fingal.

Category Winners will advance to the National Final to be held in Croke Park, on April 20th.

The ‘National Student Enterprise Awards’ competition, annually sees over 17,000 students compete on the national stage.

Broadcaster Rick O'Shea of RTE 2FM will host the awards ceremony in the Crown Plaza Hotel, on March 8th.

The secondary schools programme is sponsored, for the seventh consecutive year, by the Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board.

Oisin Geoghegan, Head of Enterprise, Fingal County Council said: “Hosting the largest programme in the country, we are proud to say we have seen many successes in the National Finals. We have seen phenomenal growth and this year we are delighted with the record numbers of students, from primary and secondary schools across the region setting up and running their own businesses. The schools, our mentors, local businesses and the sponsors are more than encouraging and every year we can see that students continue on their entrepreneurial journey and indeed set up successful enterprises in post school years."

Paul Reid, Chief Executive, Fingal County Council added "What they gain from this programme is an invaluable insight into the roots of business and a taste of experience in a safe environment. The lessons they learn on this programme will help set them on an entrepreneurial path from a young age.”
